Treatment with GnRH agonists (see medical treatment in the booklet on fibroids) can temporarily reduce fibroids

Treatment with GnRH agonists (see medical treatment in the booklet on fibroids) can temporarily reduce fibroids and reduce bleeding during surgery. Usually we recommend a diagnostic laparoscopy to assess the number and accessibility of fibroids for laparoscopy. This is not necessary if you choose the open abdominal route. Normally you explain the operation and asked to give their consent by signing a consent form in the consultation rooms to have time to reflect before admission to hospital. Please consider your weight and if necessary, try to get to normal. Try to cut down or quit. If you take the pill, must stop 46 weeks before admission. br If a laparoscopic operation can be expected to wait to go home after a day or so, but it's good to be prepared for a longer stay in the case of an open operation is necessary. If you have any questions, nobody in the team can confirm your consent to the operation. br The operation is similar abdominal myomectomy to hysterectomy, so you should read the section about what to expect. Myomectomy not, of course, remove the entire uterus, only the fibroid or fibroids. br Normally you will have general anesthesia. One dose of an antibiotic is given (and possibly a blood thinner). After you apply an antiseptic wash and covered with sterile towels, empty the bladder with a catheter. An instrument is inserted into the uterus through the cervix to maintain balance and move it. Three small cuts (1 cm) is made in the abdomen to move the instruments. br fibroids fibroids or uterine muscle disbursed and morsellator is extracted. The bleeding stops with dots or diathermy (electrical current). The gas is expelled, the abdominal wound closed and transferred from the theater to the recovery area. br Bleeding: An area of raw muscle mass is left in the fibroid is quot; desembolsquot;. This can bleed and myomectomy is recognized to be at risk for greater blood loss than hysterectomy. br Pain: generalized lower abdominal pain is common and usually resolves only mild pain relief needs. Pain from the wound will be more for large wounds. br Infection: urinary tract infections are not uncommon. Wound infections is more likely if you have a large wound or overweight. br br
